2009-2010 SAFE ENVIRONMENT TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

The  Archdiocese of Seattle has had a long commitment to the protection of children, youth and vulnerable s.  As a part of that commitment the Archdiocese established the Safe Environment Program which is aimed at eradicating the tragedy of abuse in our society.

A major part of the Safe Environment Program is training that is required for all Church Personnel.  Church Personnel includes all church employees, and all volunteers who work with children, youth or vulnerable s.  If you are involved in ministry to any of these groups, please read the training requirements outlined below. If you have are unsure whether you need to take any of these trainings, please contact your ministry leader.

  • The Safe Environment Program involves an initial training and yearly update trainings as outlined below.

    INITIAL TRAINING

All new  Church Personnel* are required to complete the Called to Protect for Ministries training. It is the policy of St. Michael Parish that this training must be completed before ministry to vulnerable persons begins.  Trainings are scheduled at least once per month at St. Michael Parish, and also at other parishes.  Participants may attend any training, but must pre-register through the Archdiocese website:  www.seattlearch.org.  There is a link to the Safe Environment Program registration on the lower right corner of the homepage of the Archdiocese website.  The registration site may also be reached through a link on the Safe Environment logo on the bottom of the homepage of our parish website.

If you do not have internet access, you may come to the parish office to complete your registration for the Called to Protect for Ministries training.

    ANNUAL UPDATE TRAINING

All Church Personnel* who completed Called to Protect for Ministries before July 1, 2009, or who completed an Armatus training last year, must complete an annual update training in the Armatus program.  Armatus is an online training system which allows participants to take the class at their convenience, from any computer with internet access.

Instructions on accessing the Armatus training are available on our parish website by clicking on the Safe Environment logo at the bottom of the home page.

This annual update training in the Armatus program must be completed by May 31, 2010.

    * Church Personnel includes all clergy, all employees, and any volunteer who works with minors & vulnerable s
