Faith Formation

Sacramental Preparation Policy

The liturgical life of the Church revolves around the Sacraments. It is our joy to accompany your child on this sacramental journey. The Archdiocese of Seattle requires a full year of faith formation prior to the immediate year of preparation for the sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Eucharist, along with regular attendance at Sunday Mass. Formal faith formation includes participation in a parish ministry offering, or Catholic school education.

Preparation for Confirmation leads the young Christian toward a more intimate relationship with Christ and the Holy Spirit so they can fully live out their Christian life. The reception of the Sacrament has real and profound effects on the person. The Confirmation Ministry is a one-year program for teens and their parents that is engaging and intentional Catholic formation through small groups, retreats, and service opportunities.

Faith Formation Opportunities

The following is a  list of the many formation opportunities offered to your family at Saint Michael Parish. All Faith Formation Sessions at SMP are offered at no cost because of the generous donations of our parish families through weekly envelopes or online giving.

This ministry is being offered to parents of children grades PreK–5. It is designed to be a highly flexible, yet personal ministry to help parents build the Domestic Church. Families will receive monthly contact (Zoom, email, phone) from a Family Faith Guide (catechist) who will check in with your family on resources and pray with you.

This year only (2020-2021), the Confirmation Ministry welcomes all students, in grades 8–12 who discern they are ready to prepare to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. This ministry invites parents to journey with their children toward the sacrament. The confirmand’s commitment includes two evening gatherings per month from October to May. Parents are invited and encouraged to participate in formational gatherings monthly. Given the unique circumstances of this pastoral year, Saint Michael Parish will offer both in-person and online session offerings.

The Sacrament of Baptism for children ages 7 and older is offered through our RCIA program.

In order to ensure the health and safety of our youth, TNTT will be offering online options using Google Teams/Zoom as gathering platforms for middle school and high school. There may be occasional in-person small group gatherings for older students. We will also provide online materials for parents with youth in K – 12 grade.

Middle School Youth Ministry encourages our 6th–8th grade students to explore their Catholic faith. We support ministry to, with, and by middle school students, seeking to draw them to a responsible participation in the life, mission, and work of our Catholic faith community.

High School Youth Ministry invites ALL Freshmen through Seniors to be a part of a Holy Spirit-filled community. The intention of this ministry is to impart the Catholic faith to our youth and invite them to practice and live out the faith in their lives.
