Introducing Parish Rosary Before Mass
For the month of October, St. Michael Parish will be praying the Holy Rosary together before each weekend Mass in the main church. This practice has been a longstanding blessing at our sister parish, St. Edward in Shelton, and we now wish to share in the same grace as one community of faith.
What Our Blessed Mother Asked of Us
From the earliest traditions surrounding the Rosary and through her later apparitions, the Blessed Virgin Mary has consistently invited her children to embrace this prayer with trust and devotion. At Fatima, she expressed a motherly plea that remains central to the life of the Church: to pray the Rosary daily for peace in the world and for the conversion of hearts. Through the Rosary, she asks us to contemplate the mysteries of Christ’s life, allowing the Gospel to shape our minds and guide our actions. Mary’s request is not only personal but communal—an invitation for the faithful to gather as a people of prayer, interceding for the needs of the Church and the world.
The Witness of the Saints
Saint Dominic, who played a crucial role in spreading devotion to the Rosary, recognized it as a powerful means of drawing the faithful together, calling it a prayer that “helps unite the faithful in the mysteries of salvation.” In praying the Rosary as a parish, we follow a long tradition of Christians gathering to reflect on Christ’s life with Mary, seeking unity, healing, and spiritual renewal.
Saint John Paul II, whose love for the Rosary shaped much of his spirituality, reminded the Church that the Rosary is “a prayer of great significance, destined to bring a harvest of holiness.” When we pray it together, we prepare our hearts to enter more deeply into the Holy Mass, allowing each mystery of Christ’s life to awaken faith, hope, and peace within us.
An Invitation to Our Parish Family
We warmly invite all parishioners to arrive a bit early, join in this prayer, and experience the grace that comes from lifting our voices together to God through Mary. Whether you are new to the Rosary or have prayed it for years, your presence enriches our parish family. Together, may we grow in holiness and unity as we prepare to celebrate the Eucharist.
